We have a lot happening here on the Vanderbilt Men's Lacrosse front. 1. New Coaches. First, this news from Coach Tyler: I am happy to announce that the Vanderbilt men's Lacrosse team coaching staff has been expanded with some top talent - Coach Adam Little will be the Offensive Coordinator and Coach Martin Schmidt will be the Defensive Coordinator. Adam's played his college lacrosse at Baylor University, and has been coaching at the high school level for almost 10 years and has 2 State Championships under his belt, as well as holds down his a job as a very successful Video Editor in music for a company called Filmworkers. Martin started playing lacrosse as a 7th grader in Greensboro, NC. After playing midfield and attack in high school, he was recruited to Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia and made the transition to LSM. As a team, they were consistently ranked in the top 10 in Division III during that time (2001-2004) and competed in three NCAA tournaments, advancing to the quarterfinals in 2003. Martin was a four-year letterman in lacrosse and four-time academic all-conference selection. He graduated in 2004 and moved to Baltimore to take a research position at Johns Hopkins. During his four years at Hopkins, he played for the Baltimore Bullfrogs in the American Lacrosse League and in indoor leagues in Baltimore and DC. Martin came to Vanderbilt in the summer of 2008 to pursue a PhD in neuroscience with his wife Alexandra, a medical student. Their contact info is adam@vandylax.com and martin@vandylax.com. Feel free to welcome them to the Vanderbilt Lacrosse family! Also you can reach Coach Tyler Hirsch any time at tyler@vandylax.com. 2. The 2010-2011 Season. The Coaches have been hard at work planning the new season. The new roster will be available on or about September 27. Lacrosse Nashville (our local lax equipment provider) will be setting up an online store exclusively for Vanderbilt gear for players. More info will be posted on www.vandylax.com soon. Player fees for the upcoming season will be $450 in the fall and $450 in the spring. Freshmen and transfer students will need to purchase helmets and gloves, as well. As you know, the participation fee is only a small portion of the total costs of running the program and the Friends of Vandy Lax are truly needed to bridge the financial gap. Which brings me to... 3. Family Weekend Lax Game: October 8 This is our inaugural lax event for Family Weekend at Natchez Field and we are really looking forward to it. We hope you will attend and bring family and friends. It will be a great time. Tickets are $15 per person; VU students and children 12 and under are free. We will need parent volunteers and donations to help with the evening - game at 5:30 p.m. and a la carte buffet dinner (for purchase) on the field at 7:00 p.m. Please make a reservation for the game by email at friendsofvandylax@vandylax.com or call me, Barbara Kelly Vessa, at 516.633.2056.
